Assadullah Durbarry

Assadullah Durbarry is a dual-qualified barrister, legal strategist, and technology governance professional with a multidisciplinary career spanning law, fintech, cybersecurity, data governance, and strategic business operations. Admitted to practice in both Mauritius and Australia, he brings a unique cross-sector perspective to legal advisory, regulatory compliance, and emerging technology governance, with a strong focus on supporting cross-border investment and innovation across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

As the Founder and Principal Barrister of Durbarry Chambers, an independent legal practice within the Mauritius International Financial Centre, Assadullah advises clients on a broad range of complex legal and regulatory matters, including financial services law, taxation, employment law, Islamic finance, and emerging technology regulation. He has also spearheaded legal innovation through the development of D Assist AI, an in-house legal technology and research platform designed to enhance legal efficiency, strategic analysis, and client engagement.

Before transitioning fully into legal practice, Assadullah built more than a decade of senior experience in technology, operations management, and regulatory compliance. At ATech Group, he led operational and IT transformation initiatives, overseeing project delivery, strategic growth, and multidisciplinary teams. His background also includes roles in systems analysis, enterprise technology, and channel account management with international organizations, contributing to his strong commercial and operational acumen.

Alongside his professional practice, Assadullah has maintained a longstanding commitment to academia and knowledge-sharing. As a lecturer and online tutor for the University of London, he taught undergraduate and postgraduate students in programming, artificial intelligence, data science, and software systems, bridging technical expertise with practical application.

Currently pursuing a PhD in Banking, Finance (FinTech), and Cybersecurity, Assadullah’s research interests focus on the evolving relationship between financial technologies, cyber governance, and legal regulation. With expertise in AI governance, cybersecurity, global data regulations, and legal risk management, he is dedicated to advancing innovative, ethically grounded, and commercially pragmatic legal solutions in an increasingly digital world.
