Babongile Mthethwa is an accomplished legal practitioner and compliance professional with more than a decade of experience in corporate law, regulatory compliance, data privacy, governance, and financial services. She has built a distinguished career across some of South Africa’s leading organizations, including Vodacom, the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA), First National Bank (FNB), the South African Bank of Athens (SABA), ABSA Bank, and private legal practice. Her expertise spans privacy law, regulatory oversight, compliance risk management, anti-money laundering (AML), corporate governance, and commercial legal advisory, making her a trusted legal strategist in highly regulated industries.

Currently serving as Senior Specialist Privacy Counsel at Vodacom, Babongile provides strategic advice on privacy compliance, data protection, contractual negotiations, privacy impact assessments, and regulatory engagement. She plays a central role in implementing robust privacy governance frameworks, managing data subject rights, advising on cross-border data sharing, and supporting complex commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions. Her work ensures compliance with evolving privacy legislation while enabling responsible business innovation.

Babongile holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Postgraduate Diploma in Compliance Management from the University of Johannesburg.
