Svetlana Chakhmakhchyan

Svetlana Chakhmakhchyan is an Armenian corporate lawyer, legal researcher, and international law practitioner whose work spans corporate governance, international criminal law, human rights, and legal education. Combining private-sector legal practice with academic research, she has developed a multidisciplinary profile focused on addressing complex legal challenges through rigorous analysis, strategic problem-solving, and international collaboration.

Svetlana currently serves as a Lawyer at ASK-Consult LLC, where she advises domestic and international clients on corporate and commercial law, regulatory compliance, contract negotiation, corporate governance, and legal risk management. Her practice includes drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, conducting legal due diligence, supporting foreign investment and company formation in Armenia, advising on migration-related legal matters, and supervising junior legal professionals to ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services.

Alongside her legal practice, Svetlana is a Junior Researcher at the Armenian Genocide Museum & Institute, where she conducts research on international criminal law, international humanitarian law, genocide studies, and human rights. Her scholarship examines the legal qualification and prosecution of genocide and related international crimes while integrating legal analysis with historical and political perspectives. She has authored and co-authored publications on genocide law, racial discrimination, hate speech, and international criminal responsibility, contributing to contemporary legal discourse on accountability and international justice.

An active participant in the international legal community, Svetlana has represented Armenia in prestigious advocacy competitions, earning the Best Oralist award in the national rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition before competing internationally. She later served as National Administrator for the Armenian Jessup rounds and was selected as Armenia’s National Representative for the Brown Mosten International Client Consultation Competition. She also serves as Project Coordinator of the Armenian International Law Association (AILA), supporting legal education, international cooperation, and professional development initiatives.
