Jean-Michel Newberg is a seasoned cybersecurity engineer, cyber operations leader, and irregular warfare researcher with a proven track record supporting U.S. federal agencies, private-sector clients, and national-security missions. Holding a TS/SCI clearance and numerous industry certifications—including CISSP, CySA+, Security+, Data+, and multiple Microsoft and CompTIA credentials—he brings deep technical expertise, strategic insight, and hands-on operational leadership to every engagement.
Jean-Michel currently serves as a Cyber Security Engineer and Cyber Operations Manager at ARGO Cyber, LLC, where he designs, builds, and operates a modern security operations center (SOC) across Azure and AWS environments. He develops identity and access management (IAM) solutions, aligns engineering practices with leading frameworks such as NIST 800-171, CMMC, ISO 27001, and Zero Trust principles, and leads end-to-end incident response from L1 through L3. He conducts comprehensive vulnerability management using tools like Nessus and OpenVAS, implements endpoint security technologies including Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and SentinelOne, and automates system-hardening processes through bash scripting and Microsoft Intune. As a mentor, he trains junior analysts and engineers, strengthening team capability and operational resilience.
Previously, Jean-Michel served with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) from 2021 to 2025, supporting one of the U.S. government’s largest cybersecurity systems. He interfaced directly with federal stakeholders, guiding capability development, system updates, and requirements decomposition for a globally distributed architecture of over 100 servers. His work included evaluating IT system security, conducting risk and impact assessments, ensuring compliance of solutions handling classified information, and managing system changes through rigorous security engineering practices.
Before joining CISA, he worked at Mission Solutions Group as an Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE), supporting U.S. Navy and DoD programs. There, he applied the Risk Management Framework (RMF) to help clients obtain Authority to Operate (ATO), assessed technologies against STIGs, and produced detailed cybersecurity documentation including SSPs, POA&Ms, and SAPs.
In addition to his engineering career, Jean-Michel is an Irregular Warfare Researcher, conducting peer-reviewed analysis on criminal-based terrorism and contributing scholarly work to Small Wars Journal.
He holds an M.S. in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance and a B.S. in Information Technology from Western Governors University, as well as a B.A. in Theater from the University of West Florida—reflecting a unique blend of technical rigor, communication skill, and creative problem-solving.
